2012-ROD RAFFLE AND EQUIPMENT SALE SUCCESS!
As many of you nay already know, John Valk owner of Grindstone Angling presented the Ted Knott Chapter with an exceptional fund raising opportunity last December.
Longtime Izaak Walton Club member, Yuji Sakuma, had approached John with an offer:. A large donation of his surplus fly-fishing assets would be used to fund environmental projects in the local area through Trout Unlimited.
The plan was for Grindstone to sell the equipment, books, etc for a small remuneration fee and present the funds to a local chapter. It is our distinct pleasure to announce that with sales basically finalized, John presented the chapter with a cheque for $4,715.20 a week before the Forum.
In addition, Grindstone expert, Mr. Dave Towers, lovingly converted an exquisite cane rod blank in the donation into a beautiful “Ted Knott Style” casting instrument.
Our plan was to offer the rod as a raffle prize to be drawn by Dave at the end of the Forum, Sunday April first. (No fooling!) .
We are pleased and grateful for the support of all our local friends for making the raffle almost 90% sold by the draw. Our final value of this portion of Yugi’s donation comes to further $ 3,480. Again, we are grateful for the foresight of Dave and his dedication to this part of the project.
With a grand total of $8,195.20 from one donation, we are happily amazed at what has taken place through the efforts of Grindstone Angling on our behalf. The winner of the rod was Mr. Ken Geddes, former IWFFC president and longtime Forum Committee member. Who says “nice guys finish last”? Ken always gives more than he gets.
These funds will be used on Bronte Creek restoration by the chapter with greatest discretion. We are dedicated to the principles of the late Ted Knott: to operate “Wisely and effectively”
Thank you all for your participation.
